MILWAUKEE (AP) - Marquette University coach Tom Crean says he isn't sure if is Golden Eagles are ready for the season to begin.
Dwyane Wade scored 20 points to lead Marquette University to a 82-70 exhibition victory over the Wisconsin All-Stars Sunday. But the Golden Eagles still had some rough edges in the game, including a 50 percent free-throw shooting performance.
"Who is ready this time of year?" Crean said. "I'm happy with where we're at. I just think we have a long way to go to get better."
Wade went 9-16 from the field and had a team-high 10 rebounds. Robert Jackson also got 13 points and eight rebounds, and Scott Merritt added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kon Knueppel led the All-Stars with 24 points. Teammate Dontay Hicks added 23 points.
Marquette led 36-28 at halftime, but the All-Stars closed the gap to 38-34 before the Golden Eagles opened up their lead.
Travis Diener, who didn't score in the first half, drilled a pair of consecutive three-pointers. Steve Novak also hit a three-pointer to cap 9-2 run that gave Marquette a 53-41 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the game.
The All-Stars kept it close for much of the first half, too. The Golden Eagles were ahead 22-20 before going on 11-2 run to take a 33-22 lead with 3:38 left. Wade scored the first eight points during of that rally.
Marquette opens its regular season against Villanova in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Friday in New York.
"I think our experience issue is the biggest thing, especially going into this weekend against Villanova," Crean said. "They've got four seniors who have been through some wars and that counts for something. We don't have that to fall back on."
