Marquette Volleyball Falls To Houston

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team came out on the short end of an extremely intense four-game battle to Houston this evening in a match played at the MU Gym. The Cougars raised their record to 16-7 overall, 6-2 in C-USA following a 32-30, 25-30, 30-27, 30-22 verdict over the Golden Eagles who saw their record fall to 11-12 in overall play, 2-8 in league action.
Marquette was paced by freshman Jessica Klein (Lena, Ill.) who came up with a season-best 19 kills to go along with six blocks. Klein also completed the match as Marquette's leading hitter with a 31.7 percent mark (19-6--41). Sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) tallied 14 attacks and chipped in 13 digs while freshman Aga Niemcezewska and sophomore Sarah Vernon recorded 11 and 10 attacks, respectively. Vernon also tied sophomore Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) and junior Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) for team-high honors with 14 digs.
For the match, Houston hit 20.7 percent compared to Marquette's mark of 15.3 percent. The Cougars compiled 78 digs to Marquette's 77 and held a slim 11-9 margin in total blocks.
Pacing UH's attack was senior Jenny Tanneberger who registered a match-high 25 attacks and 15 digs.
