Marquette Volleyball Falls In Four At UAB

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team captured the first game of a road match against UAB this evening, but couldn't sustain the momentum as the Blazers posted a four-game win over the Golden Eagles. UAB boosted its record to 12-17 overall, 4-6 in C-USA, following a 28-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-25, decision over Marquette who fell to 11-13 in overall play, 2-9 in conference outings.
Freshman Jessica Klein (Lena, Ill.) continued her improved play and paced the squad with 15 attacks along with a team-best five blocks. Klein has now posted double-figure kills in five of the last six matches. A trio of Golden Eagles posted 12 attacks; sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.), along with freshmen Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and Theresa Coughlin (Chicago). Sophomore Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) came up with a match-high 18 digs while sophomore Sarah Vernon (Englewood, Col.) registered 15 digs.
UAB was led by sophomore outside hitter Martina Shields who posted a match-best 23 attacks. Junior middle Allison Magner was a big force at the net as well with 11 total blocks.
For the match, UAB hit 20.1 percent (64-29--174) compared to Marquette's 12.0 percent (56-36--166). The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 66-54 edge in digs while the Blazers totaled a 17-9 advantage in total blocks.
Marquette plays its final regular-season league road contest on Sunday (Nov. 10) at South Florida.
