MILWAUKEE - Marquette junior guard Katie O'Grady led the Golden Eagles as they beat the Dominican Republic National Team in their first exhibition game of the season. O'Grady scored a team-high 22 points in tonight's game, with 15 of them coming from behind the arc. O'Grady opened up the game strong for Marquette, scoring 11 of points in the first half.
The Golden Eagles went 20-for-65 from the field and shot an impressive 5-for-15 from the arc.
Coach Terri Mitchell says that preseason games are a good time to work out the kinks and she is optimistic about the upcoming season.
"The exhibitions are a great opportunity to get to know what you have to work on," she said. "What I liked most was that from the first half to the second we improved. It's going to be a great year, I know it is."
Senior Rachel Klug scored 18 points for Marquette, starting out strong in the first half when she scored 10 points. She aslo had 14 rebounds in the game.
The Golden Eagles play their final preseason contest on Sunday, Nov. 18 against the Wisconsin AAU Vikings at 2 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Arena.
