Marquette Track and Field Competes At Indiana Relays

The Marquette Track and Field teams showed that they are able to compete with some of the best college athletes in the country at this weekend's Indiana Relays in at Indiana University's Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind.
The first day of competition saw junior Susan Barth take first place in the preliminary Mile race with a time of 5:07.37. Sophomore Brianna Dahm finished second.
In the finals, Marquette senior Jessie Swan finished second with a time of 4:58.52. Barth and Dahm followed, placing third and fourth, respectively.
Senior Julie Sorrentino, the new school record holder in the Weight Throw, couldn't quite break the record she set last weekend, but her throw of 58-3 ? was good enough for third place in the event.
Senior Jackie Swan took third place in the 5,000 Meter with a time of 17:43.28.
On the men's side, sophomore Ryan Jacobson set the school record in the 600 Meter with a time of 1:19.82, good enough for second place. Bill Hombsch set the old record, 1:20.86, in 1989.
Junior Marek Krawczyk took fourth place in the 400 Meter with a time of 49.42 and Charles Mashozhera continued to shine in his freshman season with a fourth place finish in the Triple Jump of 46-11 ?.
A total of 17 teams competed in the women's competition and 11 in the men's.
The Marquette Track and Field teams will be back in action next weekend, again in the state of Indiana to compete in the Cannon Classic in Indianapolis February 8-9.
