Once again the Golden Eagles were forced to play short-handed as they were without Justin Holsen (ankle sprain). To make matters worse, Marquette's top player, Raj Gill (sore arm), was forced out of action after doubles play.
As a result of the team's realignment, Troy Delmege received his first nod of the year at the number one spot. Despite a competitive match, Delmege fell to Bret Martin, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. Kent Davies (no. 2) lost another close battle, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6.
Picking up the slack for the Golden Eagles was the remainder of the squad. Joe Bates (no.3), Mark Thomas (no. 4), Creighton Macey (no. 5) and Matt Mueller (no. 6) all earned points in singles play.
In doubles, pairs Gill - Davies and Delmege - Bates were victorious. Marquette will return to the court on March 11, as the team heads south to take on Jacksonville University. They will close out their spring trip with a match against Flagler College on March 13.
