Golden Eagles Open Outdoor Season

EMPORIA, Kan. -- Marquette opened the 2002 outdoor track and field season with a meet at the Emporia State Twilight in Emporia, Kan. The Marquette women's distance teams were the most solid Golden Eagle performers, winning two events.
Marquette earned the first four places in the women's 1,500 meters. Sarah McCullough won the event with a time of 4:51.8. Jackie Swan was shortly behind at 4:53.0. Audrey Schiltz was a second behind Swan for third. Jamie Haro came in fourth with a time of 4:55.5.
Brianna Dahm won the 800-meters with a time of 2:17.8. She was just four tenths of a second off the meet record. Swan placed fourth in the event.
The Golden Eagle women's field performers also claimed a first place mark. Andrea Englemann won the triple jump with an effort of 11.36 meters. She won the event by nearly four tenths of a meter. Englemann also finished eighth in the long jump.
The Marquette men also had a solid meet. No MU men were able to take first place in any event, but solid performances were turned in by many.
The 4x100 meter relay team turned in a second place finish with a time of 41.8, just missing out on first by a tenth of a second.
The 4x400 meter relay team also came in second. MU turned in a time of 3:24.60. The host school, Emporia State, won the race at 3:23. 65.
Charles Mashozhera was the only other MU entry to turn in a top three finish on the men's side. He leapt 14.26 meters in the long jump to finish third.
The Marquette track and field team next competes at the Vernon Kennedy Mutli-Team Invitational on March 22-23 in Warrensburg, Mo. MU also competes at the Augustanna Invitational in Rock Island, Ill., on March 23.
