TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State defeated Marquette in women's tennis, 7-0, at Scottsdale Athletic Club in Tempe, Ariz. The Sun Devils, ranked ninth in the nation, raised their record to 8-3 while Marquette falls to 2-10.
Marquette lost the doubles point despite solid efforts from the no. 2 team of Annabelle Espinosa and Veronica Briseno and the no. 3 team of Eva Trujillo and Alex Stankovic.
The Golden Eagles struggled in the singles portion of the match. No MU player won a set for the second straight match. Espinosa was the closest, sending her second set at the no. 2 against Dora Krstulovic to a tie breaker before losing, 7-6.
The Golden Eagles return to action on March 20 with a home match against in-state rival Wisconsin at 4 p.m. at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
