Louisville, Ky. - The Marquette Golden Eagles fell to UAB, 4-0, in its first-round match of the conference championship. MU, seeded No. 11 in the championship, saw its record drop to 6-12.
UAB, 13-8, entered the match as the tournament's sixth seed and ranked 67th in the nation, while Marquette looking for its first win of the year against a ranked opponent. Marquette will now face No. 8 seed Charlotte tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. in the consolation draw.
With its win, UAB moves on to play No. 2 seed South Florida. Earlier this season in Charlotte, the then 60th-ranked 49ers defeated Marquette, 7-0. With their backs against the wall and hoping to stave off elimination, the Golden Eagles will look to remain alive and advance to the second round of consolation play.
