Chenier Takes First Place In Steeplechase at Boilermaker Open

The Marquette Track and Field teams continued their busy weekend Friday participating in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the Boilermaker Open in West Lafayette, Ind.
Senior Jonathan Chenier was Marquette's only first place finisher of the day as he finished first in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:22.01, nearly 30 seconds faster than the runner up.
Senior Julie Sorrentino took second place in the Hammer Throw at the Boilermaker Open with her mark of 170 feet 2 inches. The Golden Eagles also faired well in the men's Hammer Throw where Chris Schwandt placed third with a throw of 172-3.
At the Drake Relays two of Marquette's relay teams did not have the necessary times to qualify for the final. The 4x400 team of sophomore Ryan Jacobson, senior Brian Hardin, freshman Ryan Seebruck and junior Marek Krawczyk took fifth in their heat with a time of 3:14.71.
The women's 4x400 team of seniors Jennifer Batie, Jeannette Batie, sophomore Julianna Wesolowski and freshman Tiffany Bilderback finished second in their heat with a time of 3:49.74, but were short of the necessary time.
Action continues at both the Boilermaker Open and Drake Relays tomorrow for the Golden Eagles.
