Sorrentino Takes 20th in Hammer Throw at NCAA Championships

Marquette senior Julie Sorrentino (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) finished 20th in the Hammer Throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Baton Rouge, La. tonight.
Sorrentino completed three throws in the preliminary round and none were better than her first throw of 174 feet 8 inches. The mark was not enough to get into the finals. The top nine throws in the preliminaries advanced to the finals and there were 21 total athletes in the event.
Clemson senior Jamine Moton won the event with her collegiate best and NCAA Meet record throw of 220-6. Clemson stands at second place in the meet.
Sorrentino finishes her career at Marquette as the school record-holder in the Outdoor Hammer Throw, Indoor Hammer Throw and was the 2002 Conference USA Champion in the Outdoor Hammer Throw. She was the first female thrower to ever compete at a NCAA Championship meet.
Golden Eagle sophomore Brianna Dahm will compete in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase at the NCAA Championships tomorrow at 8:50 p.m. Dahm will race in the first heat of the preliminaries, the top four in each heat along with the next four best times advance to the final which will take place on Saturday, June 1 at 9:10 p.m.
