Play Continues at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE - Marquette freshman Michelle Mojzis is still alive in doubles play at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. She is teamed with Lindsay Stauss of Racine High School. The duo advanced to the women's open doubles semifinals with a 9-8 victory over Khuscherhr Italia and Lyndsey Molony of Cincinnati.
The pair will play second seeded Leigh Bradwell and Jill Buckley of Kentucky on January 10.
One other MU women's player was in action on January 9. Eva Trujillo-Herrera played in the consolation quarterfinals. She lost to eighth seeded Kit Carson of SMU, 6-4;6-4.
In the men's main draw, two Illinois players advanced to the semifinals as all four seeds advanced.
In the consolation draw on the men's side, three Memphis players - Alex Jago, Aaron Forsberg and Alex Bucewicz - moved on to the consolation semifinals. Toledo's Dipseh Roa defeated Jago and Bucewicz beat Forsberg to advance to tomorrow's consolation final.
In doubles, only one of the top eight seeds advanced to the quarterfinal round, which begins tomorrow.
In women's open singles play, all four seeds advanced including three California players. Raquel Kops-Jones is the top seed and will meet teammate Nicole Havlicek in the semifinals. LiinaSuurvarik of Illinois State will play California's Catherine Lynch in the other semifinal.
In the consolation draw, two Purdue players advanced through the quarterfinal round on to the final. AmyWalgenbach of Purdue defeated Butler's Tayo Bailey and Cincinnati'sCristinaReyes en route to the final. GretchenHaynor defeated Diana Stein of Duquesne and then downed Carson to advance.
In women's doubles action, Kops-Jones is teamed with Illinois State's Suuryarik and is the top seed. They advanced to the semifinals along with fourth seed Havlicek/Lynch; Mojzis/Stauss and Bradwell/Buckley.
Play continues through Sunday at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
