Milwaukee-The Marquette men's tennis team lost Friday night, 6-1, to South Florida in Tampa. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-2 on the season as the Bulls improve to 3-2.
Raj Gill, making an appearance in his first singles match of the 2003 season after being out due to injury, claimed the only Marquette victory on the night in the No. 1 singles match. Gill defeated Paco Antelo, 7-6, 0-6, 6-4.
Eigintas Vedrickas lost the No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-1, to Rento Silveira. Vedrickas is now 5-10. In the No. 3 singles match Troy Delmege was defeated, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, by Nadim Naser, making his season record, 1-3. Justin Holsen, playing in his third match of the year, lost the No. 4 singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to Andres Maroldt. Kent Davies encountered his first loss of the 2003 season as he fell, 6-0, 6-2, to Frderico Barton. Creighton Macy's record falls to 2-10 as he is defeated, 6-1, 6-2 by Jorge Escallon in the No. 6 singles match.
The Golden Eagles lost the doubles point as all three teams lost their matches.
Marquette plays next on Feb. 11 at 4:00 pm at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
