Men Place Third, Women Fourth at Lee Calhoun Invitational

The Marquette men's and women's Track and Field teams traveled to Macomb, Ill. for the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational hosted by Western Illinois University. The men took third (eight teams participated) and the women took fourth (11 teams participated).
Highlighting the action for the men on the field was sophomore Charles Mashozhera who placed first in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. His mark in the Long Jump was 22 feet nine inches while his jump in the Triple Jump tallied 49-5 1/2.
Marquette placed second and third in the Shot Put with sophomore Andy Ballard's throw of 50-11 1/2 bettering that of sophomore teammate Jonathan Rosploch's throw of 50-6 3/4.
Crystal Larson took first in the Hammer Throw with a throw of 169-1.
Freshman Matt Piekarski finished first in the Decathlon that finished up on Friday. In the Decathlon, Piekarski took first in the 100m (11.36), 400m (51.35) and 1,500m (4:47.08). Piekarski finished with 5,464 points, coming just 400 points short of a freshman school record.
Sophomore Luky Denega took third in the Heptathlon with a score of 4,039 pts.
On the track, junior Jamie Haro recorded a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:14.70 en route to a first place finish. Senior Sandy Fondow also recorded a personal best in that race, finishing third with a time of 2:15.14.
Junior Brianna Dahm picked up where she left off last season in the 3,000m Steeplechase turning in another first place performance. Dahm's time of 10:30.01 beat out the second place finisher by three seconds.
The Emond sisters placed second and third in the 5,000m with Susanna's time of 18:02.45 bettering Theresa by just over one second.
