The Marquette men's and women's Cross Country team will begin its season at the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill. on Friday afternoon.
The women's team enters the meet ranked 27th in the nation and has won the Bradley Invite the last three years. "Being nationally ranked and having won the meet the past three years, it will definitely be our goal to win this meet," said head coach Dave Uhrich. "It will be hard to know what to expect because a lot of teams won't run their best runners in these early meets."
Three of Marquette's top runners will not participate in Friday's meet. Senior Brianna Dahm, sophomore Alli Sauer and sophomore Jodi Jakubek will not run to due various injuries. Dahm, while completely healthy, is a behind on her training and will not be ready by tomorrow's meet.
Uhrich hopes that the injuries will give other runners a chance on a team that he says has incredible depth.
The men's team enters the meet as two-time defending champions of the Bradley Invite and looks to make it three in a row.
"We don't have as much depth as I wish, but I still think we will be very competitive," said Uhrich.
An injury of note on the men's side is sophomore Brent Des Roches, last season's team MVP, who will sit out the meet with soreness in his foot.
The meet itself will be more competitive all around as 21 teams will participate this year. Included in the meet will be stronger teams like Missouri, Illinois, Nothern Iowa and Illinois State.
Action begins at Detweiller Park at 5:30 p.m. Results from the Bradley Invite will be posted on gomarquette.com as soon as possible.
