Men' Tennis Rolls to Second Victory

Raj Gill and Creighton Macy made quick work of their no. 2 doubles match against Colin Priestner and Chuck LeVaque. The Marquette tandem took an 8-6 win. Ian Kawas and Ricky Servoss also got a doubles victory. They beat Eastern Illinois? no. 3 duo of Brandon Lenfert and Ryan Blankenbaker.
?Sometimes you get the doubles point and sometimes you don?t,? coach Steve Rodecap said. ?It?s how you react to that point that either wins a match or loses it.?
After winning the doubles point, Kawas was the first Golden Eagle to take a singles match as he beat Ryan Blankenbaker in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Kawas ties for a team-high 5-7 record.
With two points under its belt, Marquette had confidence finishing the rest of the singles matches.
?I feel we reacted well to the whole thing,? Rodecap said. ?Your attitude going into the singles matches matters a lot and Ian has been the first off the court for us in our first two matches and that helps.?
A switch in the nos. one and two singles placed Vedrickas at the top spot against a formidable C.J. Weber. Vedrickas faltered and lost, 6-3, 6-0. His win-loss record is 3-8.
Coming off an opening-season loss to Illinois-Chicago, Leenders turned his play around and defeated Brandon Blankenbaker, 6-1, 6-2. Leenders singles record now stands at 5-6.
Macy confirmed a Marquette victory by beating Colin Priestner, 6-1, 6-4. Macy improves his record to 3-5.
?Eastern is a good team, I knew we?d have a good match against them,? Rodecap said. ?But we?re not satisfied with these wins, you want to be good and we?ve got to keep pressing towards better play.?
The Golden Eagles play Southern Illinois at home on Feb. 6 at 4:00 p.m.
