TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Marquette men's and No. 30 women's cross country teams competed today at the Pre-NCAA Meet in Terre Haute, Ind. The women took 13th place in the "Blue" Division while the men placed 30th in the "Blue" Division, 37 teams competed in each division.
The women were led by junior Jodi Jakubek who placed 37th overall with a 6-kilometer time of 21:31.0. Sophomore Heidi Lindeman wasn't far behind as she placed 41st with a time of 21:34.8.
"We had a good solid day," said head coach Dave Uhrich. "We beat some teams that were ahead of us in the national rankings (Baylor, Georgetown, Texas Tech) and the teams that beat us all are solid teams. We are definately ready to peak in the next couple of weeks."
Sophomore Cassie Peller was the third Marquette finisher, taking 89th place in 22:07.1. The Emond sisters, juniors Susie and Terri placed 102nd (22:12.5) and 122nd (22: 22.3), respectively. Over 250 athletes participated in the race.
Junior Brent Des Roches again led the men, taking 71st place with a time of 24:57.8 for the 10-kilometer course.
"We are still looking for some depth," added Uhrich. "We beat a conference rival in Louisville, but Cincinnati ran a great race and they seem to be the favorite at this point. We need to come together at the right time and we can do that."
Sophomore Jeremy Williams finished in 25:42.8--good for 146th place. Senior Jason Crichton placed 180th with a time of 26:00.4. The men's race also had over 250 participants.
Today's race took place on the same course the will play host to the 2004 NCAA Championship meet in November.
The Marquette men and women will look to repeat as Conference USA Champions at the C-USA Championship meet on Oct. 30 in Palos Hills, Ill.
