MEMPHIS -- The Marquette (2-6-1, 0-3-1) men's soccer team dropped a Conference USA road game tonight to Memphis (7-2-0, 3-0-0), 3-1.
"We played decent, but decent doesn't get it done," said head coach Steve Adlard. "We are making progress, but we are still giving up soft goals. It's a growing pains thing. You can't beat experience. We will make mistakes, but I wish we would start to learn from those mistakes."
Marquette dug an early hole as Memphis scored three goals in an eight minute span in the first half. Andy Metcalf had the first two of the three goals at 10:46 and 12:23 the third goal came at 18:57.
Sophomore Matt Blouin scored Marquette's only goal and it was assisted by freshman Mike Manone at 33:44.
"We had a number of near misses in the second half," added Adlard. "If this game went 3-2, it would have gotten interesting."
The Golden Eagles and Tigers each had eleven shots tonight.
Marquette will return to play state rival Wis.-Green Bay in a non-conference match on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Green Bay.
