The pair defeated Butler?s Scott Newmark and Parker Ross, 9-7 in the qualifying draw.
?We started slow and then we picked up the energy,? assistant coach Armando Espinosa said. ?Troy was passionate about his play, we battled back from match points, we looked good.?
The pair is next in action on Sunday when they take on 8th seeded Martin/Zeder of Illinois.
The Golden Eagles didn?t fare well in singles action, Binkley, Delmege and Eigis Vedrickas each lost his singles match in yesterday?s pre-qualifying action.
Troy Delmege lost his match to 11th seeded Drew Eberly of Ohio State, 6-0, 6-2. Brett Binkley took the first set from Iowa?s Kyle Markham 6-3, then battled the second set to a 7-6 defeat before losing the third, 6-3. Eigis Vedrickas lost, 7-5, 6-4, to Andy Bartish of Butler.
?The competition was strong but we could?ve done better than we did,? Espinosa said. ?We need to come out and say ?hey were going to beat these guys.? It?s an attitude that we lacked. We had opportunities we just couldn?t capitalize on them.?
