Men' Tennis Tops Wisconsin-Green Bay

?We have to come out and defend our home court,? coach Steve Rodecap said. ?We were extremely tight tonight and I didn?t feel we had much of a fight. We?re trying to build our program and prove to people that we belong, but we?re not there yet.?
The Golden Eagles started off the night by taking the doubles point off wins at the nos. 1 and 3 spots. The Hugo Leenders and Eigis Vedrickas duo defeated Jarett Cascino and Tyler Dorn, 8-2, in the no. 1 match, while Ian Kawas and Ricky Servoss took care of Scott Dickert and Eric Hines, 8-4, in the no. 3 match. Lenders and Vedrickas own a 2-3 dual match doubles record and Kawas and Servoss stand at 3-2.
Troy Delmege entered tonight?s match playing for the first time this season. He entered the lineup for Raj Gill who is not playing for personal reasons. Delmege and Creighton Macy dropped the no. 2 doubles match, 5-8, to Ben Davis and Mat Weiss.
?Tonight was Troy?s first match in a long time,? Rodecap said. ?He?ll just continue to get better as the season goes on. He?s going to be a tough out playing in the middle of the lineup for us.?
Kawas was off the court first again for Marquette with the no. 5 singles match. He defeated Weiss, 7-5, 6-1. Kawas? record stands tied with Macy?s at a team-high 4-1.
Leenders brought the Golden Eagles? lead to 3-0 when he won the no. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-3, against Ben Davis. Leenders? record improves to 3-2.
Macy clinched the Marquette victory when he beat Eric Hines, 6-0, 6-1, in the no. 4 singles match.
It?s a quick turn around for the Golden Eagles as they go on the road playing this Saturday at Iowa (2:30) and this Sunday at Illinois State (1 p.m.).
