The Men?s Tennis team returned home from Corpus Christi, Texas, on the heels of a tough weekend of tournament action. Playing in the HEB Invitiational, the team competed in a well-qualified field (eight of the twleve teams are currently ranked by the ITA), but failed to pull of the upset.
After an opening 4-0 defeat to No. 68 Cornell, Marquette faced Texas-San Antonio. A line-up change provided a spark, but was not enough to take the early matches, as Marquette fell 4-0. "We competed a lot harder," said Head Coach Steve Rodecap. "The matches that were still on the court we were winning, we were about ready to close out two of them."
In the team?s final match of the weekend, the Golden Eagles topped Wichita State, 4-0. A return to the regular line-up provided momentum t the team, and helped Marquette pull away early. Rodecap was pleased with his team?s effort, "We played much better. We went with our full line-up today and competed very hard."
