Mashozhera and Courtney Both Qualify for NCAA Regional Meet

A busy Easter holiday for the Golden Eagle track and field teams kicked off today and was highlighted by Sophomore Michaela Courtney?s NCAA Regional Meet qualifying time in the 1,500m at the SeaRay Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
Courtney qualified for the NCAA Regional meet in the 1,500m with her time of 4:25.54. That time was good for fifth place and the second best in Marquette history.
Junior Charles Mashozhera took first in the Triple Jump with a jump of 50 feet 1 inch, also qualifying him for the NCAA Regional Meet. It was the second straight week that Mashozhera won the Triple Jump in a competition and tonight?s mark was within five inches of his school record mark.
The Golden Eagles continued to turn in strong distance times as the women placed three of the top five finishers in the 10,000m. Sophomore Jodi Jakubek took second with a personal best time of 36:39.58. Senior Susan Barth was fourth with a time of 37:03.34 and sophomore Allison Sauer was just behind Barth with a time of 37:07.05.
Junior Jason Crichton took seventh in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:34.04.

The Golden Eagles also sent four athletes to the Emporia State Challenge in Kansas that concluded tonight. Junior Lucky Denenga was the ninth collegiate finisher in the Heptathlon, scoring 4,098 points in the event. Sophomore Matt Piekarski was the sixth collegiate finisher in the Decathlon with 6,111 points, a personal best and the second best Decathlon performance in Marquette history.
Tomorrow, eight Marquette athletes will travel to Miami for the Gatorade Miami Classic. The meet will take place all day Saturday at Cobb Stadium in Miami. Results from that meet will be posted as soon as they become available. For more information, follow this link.
