Women's Tennis Downed at Alabama

Playing their eleventh match against ranked-competition, the Golden Eagles came up short against Alabama, losing to the Crimson Tide, 2-5. Marquette (4-15) will wrap up its regular season on Sunday at UAB before heading to Louisville for the Conference USA Championships. Alabama improved to 11-8 on the season.
After losing the top two matches of the doubles point 8-2, the Golden Eagles looked to come back strong in the singles points, only to be outscored there 4-1. Senior Annabelle Espinosa picked up the only win for Marquette, at No. 4, defeating the Tide's Melissa Minor, 6-2, 7-6 (3). The top of the Marquette order once again faced stiff competition, losing to ranked opponents. Veronica Garcia Briseno was topped by #44 Robin Stephenson 6-1, 6-2, and Genevieve Charron lost to #71 Ashley Bentley by the same score.
The remaining Golden Eagle point came after Alabama defaulted the last singles match.
