Barnstedt followed suit adding the second point for MU in a three set outing. The freshman dropped the first set to Guibal Britt 3-6, but responded in the second taking the 7-6 victory. Barnstedt left little room for doubt in the third set, securing the point 6-4.
With the match knotted at 3-3, Elena Duva had all eyes on her in the sixth position. Duva claimed the first set 7-6 and took the second 7-6 to secure the win.
Coach Barnett on the win:
"What an unbelievable win for the program today! I cannot be more proud of the effort everyone showed on this team. We started off the match so well winning doubles again. Our doubles has been great, we're playing aggressive and positionally smart tennis. SIUE played great singles and we were soon 3-1 down. Elise had an unbelievable comeback being a set 4-1 down and fighting off a match point. Just seeing her confidence grow and embrace the moment was special. Lu played so well today getting us to 3-3. Elena has been clutch for us all year and she closed it out after being 5-3 down in both sets. This team fought so hard for each other and they deserve this win. Let's Go Marquette!"
