DAVIDSON, N.C.?Marquette (0-1) opened its season with a 1-0 loss to Davidson (1-0) tonight in Davidson, N.C.
The Golden Eagles and the Wildcats played 74 scoreless minutes before the Robbie Reynolds received a cross from David Sartorio and snuck a shot in the goal.
?The goal was disappointing,? head coach Steve Adlard said. ?At that point in the game, you think you may have weathered the storm. We played all right up to that point, but we just didn?t create enough for ourselves.?
Marquette had opportunities, but was not able to turn those opportunities into goals.
?We had more corner kicks than them? Adlard said. ?But we didn?t do anything with that. We fought hard in the backfield all game long. If you let one goal in, you did your job. We weren?t able to take advantage of what they were giving us.? The fist half saw no scoring for either team as both teams struggled to find the goal, but were able to get shots off.
?We were out shot early in the match,? Adlard said. ?But there wasn?t a lot in it, they had a flurry of shots early and that was it.?
The Golden Eagles return home to face C-USA rival Saint Louis--ranked No. 4 in the nation--Saturday at Valley Fields at 7 p.m.
