OMAHA, Neb. ? The Marquette (1-4-0) men?s soccer team dropped a close 2-1 match at #16 Creighton (5-1-0) this afternoon in Omaha, Neb.
The Golden Eagles struck first as Chris Lee scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick just five minutes into the game. Lee was pulled down by a Creighton defender on a breakaway, causing the penalty kick.
The Blue Jays evened the score just four minutes later on Kama Bennah?s 15 yard shot.
The ball spent most of the rest of the game going back and forth as no team was able to take advantage of a scoring opportunity. Creighton?s game winner came in the 74th minute on a seven yard shot from Tim Bohenkamp.
?There were not many really shots on goal,? added Adlard. ?We need to address that as a team. We need to create opportunities and sometimes we just need to pull the trigger and take a shot.?
Marquette goalkeeper Steven Grow had two saves while Creighton goalkeeper Matt Allen had only one.
?This shows that we know we can play with the best,? said head coach Steve Adlard. ?To play a team this close on the road is a good sign for us.?
Marquette will return home on Wednesday for a match against Ill.-Chicago at 7 p.m.
