Vedrickas, Delmege Lead Men' Tennis to Season Opener Win

The duo started out by taking a 9-8 No. 1 doubles win over Ivan Kovalev and Andy Lockhart in their first pairing of the season. Vedrickas then went on to defeat Kovalev in the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-3, while Delmege took care of the No. 2 match, 6-4, 6-4 against Karol Zarucki.
?Eigis and Troy both played great team doubles,? coach Steve Rodecap said. ?I?m very happy with their level of play. It was a good way to start out the day. It?s good when you?re older guys can go out and take charge.?
The Golden Eagles began the day by sweeping the doubles point before winning at every match except No. 5.
Rodecap says he is happy with the way the team started out the season and is looking forward to their first road game against No. 55 ranked Michigan State on Jan. 22 at 11 a.m.
?We really competed hard as a team,? Rodecap said. ?We jelled well at doubles. Now we have Michigan State which is a good opponent for us. We?ve got to go on the road and see if we can get an upset.
