McNeal Named Big East Rookie of the Week

MILWAUKEE, November 28 ? The Marquette men?s basketball program has earned its second consecutive BIG EAST Rookie of the Week as freshman guard Jerel McNeal (Chicago, Illinois) was named this week?s winner, it was announced by the conference on Monday. Freshman guard Dominic James won the award last week.
McNeal helped lead the Golden Eagles to their second Great Alaska Shootout Championship by averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.3 steals, and shooting 66.7-percent (10-for-15) from the field in the team?s three victories. McNeal, who was named to the Shootout?s All-Tournament Team, also was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Overall, McNeal leads the team in steals (11), blocks (4) and field goal percentage (65.4), and is second in total rebounds (22). He scored a career-high 15 points in MU?s tournament opener against Eastern Washington.
Marquette defeated Eastern Washington, Oral Roberts and South Carolina en route to the Shootout Championship.

Ryan Amoroso scored a career-high 30 points, including the last five of the game, to help Marquette to its second Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title with a 92-89 overtime victory over South Carolina at Sullivan Arena.
In addition, the 6-foot-8 sophomore collected a career-best 12 rebounds. Amoroso entered Saturday's game with just 13 points and nine rebounds through the Golden Eagles' first two Shootout victories.
Last season Amoroso played in all 31 games, making three starts and was Marquette's most productive reserve, averaged 6.0 points and 3.6 points in 15.2 minutes.
