It was hard fought competition for the doubles point as the Nos. 2 and 3 spots were split between Illinois State and Marquette, leaving the point up to the winner of the No. 1 set. Troy Delmege and Eigis Vedrickas fought hard, but ultimately fell, 9-7, to Ben Pettinari and Djordje Uskokovic.
The Golden Eagles had to play tough in singles to overcome the doubles loss.
?The whole day we dug ourselves into holes,? coach Steve Rodecap said. ?It?s like we were always clawing back and I give our guys credit because they showed me more than they have in the past.?
Brett Binkley was the lone Marquette netter to win his singles match, taking the No. 4 point from Yohann Nograbat, 6-4, 6-1.
Delmege injured his ankle while playing his No. 2 singles match and his status for tomorrow?s matches is unknown.
The Golden Eagles close out their home schedule Saturday with a double-header against Wright State at 9 a.m. before taking on Western Illinois at 4 p.m.
