Both men and women?s track and field teams notched the top grade point average in the conference in their respective sports. The women recorded a 3.33 cumulative GPA, while the men earned a 3.16 cumulative GPA in the 2004-05 academic year.
?I have always been as proud of my teams? academic accomplishments as well as their athletic accomplishments," said head track and field coach Dave Uhrich. ?They truly define the term student-athlete in that they excel in the classroom as well as on the playing field. It is wonderful that they are recognized for that.?
The Institutional Excellence Award is given to the C-USA institution with the highest grade point average during the current academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports.
This is the first year the men have received this award, while the women have been honored three additional times for the 1995-96, 1996-97 and 2003-04 academic years.
This award caps another successful academic year for the Golden Eagles track and field teams as a total of 14 student athletes were awarded the Conference USA Commissioner?s Academic Medal for a GPA of 3.75 or higher, and 27 student-athletes were named to Conference USA?s honor roll with a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
