Golden Eagles play short-handed during exhibition match
DeKALB, Ill. ? Despite two red cards and playing a pair of men down, the Marquette men's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw with Northern Illinois in an exhibition contest in DeKalb, Ill.
According to head coach Steve Adlard, the red cards received were not ordinary of the collegiate game.
"The two red cards were out of context of the game," head coach Steve Adlard said. "We had an MLS official and we have to be mindful of the way they do business."
Even playing 11-on-9, Marquette was able maintain its defensive efforts and still had an attacking presence.
"We hit the bar twice and had some good chances to score, but we were a bit unlucky at times," Adlard added. "We have some work to do, but it was a solid performance considering we were down men for a significant period of time. It was very encouraging tonight."
The men's soccer team plays one more exhibition on Saturday, August 27 at DePaul before opening the regular season at Ohio State on Friday, September 4.
