MILWAUKEE ? Marquette continues its difficult opening stretch, taking on 12th ranked Connecticut on Saturday, October 2 at 7 p.m. EDT in Storrs, Conn.
The Golden Eagles are playing their fourth ranked opponent in the first nine matches of the season. An opponent from last week, Cincinnati, has moved into the top 25 for the first time, making the schedule even that more difficult. Playing ranked teams will continue next week as well as MU hosts Notre Dame, certain to be a top 25 team.
Marquette is coming off winning the first BIG EAST game in the history of the program. The Golden Eagles posted two goals in a win over Louisville, 2-1, to earn the three points for the victory.
Once the no. 1 team in the country in the Soccer America poll, Connecticut had its troubles with former Conference USA schools earlier in the season. One week into its reign as the nation?s top team, UConn fell to Cincinnati and Louisville on the road.
The Huskies are coming off a mid-week win against Sacred Heart, 3-0. Since losing to Cincinnati and Louisville, Connecticut hasn?t allowed a goal in three matches, one of which includes a 0-0 tie to no. 8 St. John?s. Aside from the four goals allowed in those two matches, Connecticut has surrendered just one other goal all year.
Chukwudi Chijindu leads the team in goals with three, but Ryan Cordeiro leads the team with 10 points, having three goals and four assists. Adam Schuerman owns a 0.54 goals against average on the season.
