MILWAUKEE - The Marquette volleyball team won its second BIG EAST match this evening in the Al McGuire Center, defeating DePaul, 3-0 (30-25, 30-25, 30-24). "Overall tonight, I thought we played well," said head coach Pati Rolf. "Our passing improved tonight which helped stabilize the rest of our attack. It was a total team effort. We need to keep this momentum on our side and we need to come out ready to play on Sunday against Notre Dame."
Marquette claimed game one, 30-25, despite trading points and hitting just 11. 9 percent in the first stanza. A kill by sophomore middle blocker Tiffany Helmbrecht helped Marquette mount a 12-3 run midway through the game and seal the first victory for the Golden Eagles. Coughlin led the way for Marquette in the second game registering six kills while the Golden Eagles improved their hitting to 18.6 percent.
Marquette clinched the sweep of the match winning game three, 30-24, behind a match high 37.2 hitting percentage. Coughlin, Mueller and Todd combined for 12 of the Golden Eagles 20 kills in game three.
