Men's Tennis Sweeps Eastern Illinois

MILWAUKEE - Sparked by the intensity of sophomore Pete VanLieshout, the Marquette men's tennis team downed Eastern Illinois, 7-0, today at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The doubles team of Brett Binkley and Van Lieshout played with high energy at no. 1 defeating the Panther's Chuck LeVaque and Brandon Lenfert, 8-4. The freshmen duo of Stephen Shao and Trent Hagan continue to gain confidence beating Chris Thomas and Sean Bush, 8-1.

"Our doubles energy is getting better," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "I was proud of the energy that Pete brought to the court today, he played outstanding. (Steven) Shao and (Trent) Hagan are continuing to get better at the no. 3. They had a good win today."

Eigis Vedrickas and Ian Kawas were the only Golden Eagle duo unable to pull out a win in singles, falling to Vuk Milicevic and Ryan Blankenbaker, 8-5. Vedrickas and Kawas were both able comeback in singles winning at the no. 1 and no. 2.

"That was a good win for Eigis," said Rodecap. "Hopefully today's win will start a run of matches for him."

Hagan fought through three sets to defeat Lenfert, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, at no. 3. Greg Sirotek continues his winning streak, by taking down Jordan Nestrud, 6-2, 6-7, going 3-0 on the season.

"We have to continue to work hard on composure and close out matches when we can," Rodecap said. "We still have a ways to go before we are the team we have the potential to be."

Marquette will be back in action Saturday, February 11, with a double header against Chicago State and Western Illinois beginning at 11 a.m.
