LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Marquette men and women's track team capped day two in California with several season best finishes at the Sprinco Long Beach Invite hosted by Long Beach State. Freshman Carrie Schmid highlighted the day for Marquette winning the pole vault.
Heidi Lindeman started things off for Marquette with a fourth place in the 1,500 meter run coming in at 4:44.41.
Freshman Lana Rabas cleared a personal best 5-4.25 (1.63m) in the high jump, good enough for third place. Schmid won he pole vault clearing a season best 11-06.25 (3.51m) and junior Kristin Stoniecki followed tying for third place clearing 11-00.25 (3.36m).
In the throwing events sophomore Jessica Ehlen took a third-place finish in the shot put throwing a season best 42-09.75 (13.05m). She followed that up with a toss of 132-07 (40.41m) in the discus throw in fifth place. Junior Jenna Mahaffey and Audra Ketelsen finished in third and fourth place in the discus throw with tosses of 135-02 (41.21m) and 134-03 (40.92), respectively.
Maheaffey added a sixth place finish in the hammer throw with a season best toss of 154-02 (47m), while Ketelsen finished seventh in the javelin throw (110-04 (33.63m)).
On the men's side, the throwers maintained consistency across the board. The Golden Eagles tallied four top-10 finishes in the discus throw with senior Andy Ballard leading the way in fourth place with a toss of 158-07 (44.97m). Senior Damian Anisko, freshman Jeff Kluge and sophomore Mike Boedeker followed in seventh (154-03 (44.28m)), ninth (142-11 (43.56m)) and 10th (141-04 (43.07)), respectively.
Anisko and Ballard highlighted the hammer throw for Marquette with Anisko finishing sixth place with a toss of 169-07 (51.70m) and Ballard taking eighth with a throw of 163-08 (49.90m).
Meanwhile at the Mt. SAC Relays, junior Michaela Courtney competed in the University/Open division women's 1,500 meter run . Courtney finished in ninth place with a time of 4:25.55. Stanford's Arianna Lambie took top honors in the race with a time of 4:19.88.
Sophomore Raymond Bratchett finished in a tie for second place in the men's high jump in the University/Open division clearing a season-best height of 6-8.75 (2.05m) along with UC Irvine's Julian Eison.
