The match pitted the Golden Eagles against Bavarian NPSL squad with MU earning a 5-0 result on the strong play of Jaime Zarse and the solid goalkeeping of Marc Dettmann.
The Jake Provan-coached Bavarian NPSL side was comprised of at least six players who will be headed to Division I programs this fall. Three of those will be headed to Marquette this fall. The regular season will start for the Bavarians in early May and at that time the roster will be made up of top-level current college players.
MU opened the scoring early on a goal by Dan Addis set up by Matt Blouin. Moments later Duncan Silvert-Noftle found the back of the net redirecting a head ball back across the goal-mouth from Rob Walton.
Halftime found the Golden Eagles up 2-0 and then the second half saw a similar goal eruption.
"Anytime you get an opportunity to play and work out the kinks, it's a good thing," head coach Louis Bennett said. "Being able to score goals is something we want to do. Creating scoring chances is very important to our success."
Jaime Zarse side volleyed a corner from Rob Walton. Zarse continued on his stellar play with an unassisted goal approximately 15 minutes from time. The final tally came from Matt Blouin who went in alone and found the back in the net low to the keeper's right. The goal was Blouin's fourth of the spring.
"We're creating chances and those people that are expected to be in position to finish, are," Bennett said. "The goal of the spring was the create a style of play and players like Blouin, Walton and Nick Kay are adapting to our style."
The Golden Eagles are back in action against on Tuesday, April 25, taking on UWM at Engelmann Field at 3 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity to play against a quality team," Bennett added. "It's nothing more, nothing less for the coaching staff. For the players, it's a cross-town rivalry so it's a big thing for them. For the coaches, its an opportunity to face a good team and find out what more we need to do."
