MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team concluded day-three of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sunday afternoon at the Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove, Wis., losing in doubles competition, 3-0 to No. 29 Texas A&M, and in singles play to Wisconsin, 5-1. The Golden Eagles placed fourth overall in the weekend's tournament.
Senior Francina Bonnelly knocked off Morgan Tuttle of Wisconsin, 4-6, 6-4, (10-6), in the No. 5 singles spot to earn her first victory of the season for Marquette.
Teams were awarded points throughout the weekend based on their play in singles and doubles competition. The winning team of two out of three doubles matches captured one point, while each singles match victory was worth one point for a team. The women's results were as follows:
No. 27 William and Mary - 17 pts. No. 29 Texas A&M - 14 pts. Wisconsin - 8 pts. Marquette - 3 pts.
The Golden Eagles continue the fall portion of their season, Sept. 29-Oct.1, at the Wolverine Invite in Ann Arbor, Mich.
