Ethan Zohn, winner of Survivor: Africa and co-founder of Grassroot Soccer, has teamed up with The Excellency Clinic for this October 13-14 fundraiser tournament. The soccer tournament is open to players ages U7 to U14, in a 3 v 3 street-style soccer format, and will be held at Marquette University's Valley Fields. Teams will be determined by The Excellency Clinic. The tournament will benefit Grassroot Soccer.
A minimum of 6 games will be guaranteed, along with an official tournament tshirt and a chance to meet Ethan Zohn as well as various Marquette University players and coaches. Participants and their families will also receive free admission to the Marquette University Women's soccer game on Friday night, October 13, against Cincinnati, and Marquette University Men's soccer game on Saturday night, October 14, against Seton Hall. Fox Soccer Channel will be covering the tournament.
The Excellency Clinic, run by Marquette University assistant coach Khaled El-Ahmad, former UWM soccer player Ryan Seymour, and UWM assistant coach Chris Dadaian, is an organization that is devoted to developing kids into the best soccer players they can be through participation and instruction. In addition to teaching kids soccer skills, the Excellency Clinic also helps its participants develop on a personal level by providing opportunities for the kids to help other kids through the vehicle of soccer. In May of this year nearly 100 area youth participated in a benefit tournament sponsored by The Excellency Clinic that raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Many of the kids participating were members of The Excellency Clinic.
Ethan Zohn, a two-time Survivor cast member, is a director of Grassroot Soccer, a charitable organization whose mission is to mobilize the global soccer community in the fight against AIDS. The organization reaches hundreds of thousands of children in numerous countries with potentially life-saving information about HIV prevention. Zohn is also the host of Fox Soccer on the Fox Soccer Channel.
There will be several extras throughout the weekend, including a collection of gently used soccer gear for distribution to children in third world countries, a silent auction, bake sale, apparel sales and concessions.
Registration is $30 per participant. Registration for additional participants from the same family is $25 each. For more information about registration and the event, visit www. excellencyclinic.com.
