Women's Tennis Completes Day One at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team completed day one at the Wolverine Invitational on the campus of the University of Michigan. Marquette tallied first round wins from sophomore Lauren Little and freshmen Kylie Moore and Elly Strother.

In the first round of the main draw, Little down Whitney Reys of Purdue in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Moore outlasted Kentucky's Whitney Spencer, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, while Strother had to play to tiebreakers in both her sets to get the result, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (6), over Purdue's Whitney Melhorn. However, in the second round of the day in singles play, all three Golden Eagles fell to their respective Michigan counterparts.

Junior Shannon Brown advanced to the second round of the main draw through a bye she received, but fell to Michigan's Chisako Sugiyama, 6-2, 6-0, in the second round.

In doubles play, the tandem of Erin Watkins Maggie Wilson quickly defeated Purdue's Whitney Melhorn and Whitney Reys, 8-1.

On Saturday in the consolation draw, Maggie Wilson will take on Kentucky's Jessica Gluggioli, Robin Metzler will face Anna Dzeva of Purdue and Lauren Little will play Kentucky's Caroline Winebrenner. Also, Kylie Moore will face Whitney Melhorn, Elly Strother will play Whitney Reys and Erin Watkins will face Alejandra Boeker, all of Purdue. Katie Donovan will have a friendly match with teammate Shannon Brown and Andrea Bukacek will match up with Kentucky's Whitney Spencer.
