UWM Coach Rob Jeter
"It was a good experience for my group to come in here and play an opponent like Marquette. What we need to do now is just be able to learn some things from this experience and move on and get ourselves ready for our league."
On playing zone...
"It's not the first time this year we've played in the zone. We've thrown a few zone possessions at teams after timeouts. Tonight, when you're taking a look at Marquette, you have to pick your poison. You have to look at the percentages and they say that early in the year they've had some troubles shooting from the outside and you just try to weather the storm. I thought we were able to do that for several times, but what you can't do is give them a steady diet of anything because they are veteran players. They are a very good basketball team and eventually they will wear you down. We tried to just try and keep them off balance."
Deion James
On his first half opportunities...
"They probably didn't have me on the scouting report. They might not have known about me."
On Torre Johnson's foul trouble...
"That's tough because Torre is such a great player. He gives a lot defensively, rebounds and blocked shots. When he picked up his second foul, everyone else had to step out because he got two quick and early and had to sit for awhile. We just tried to keep it up for him until the second half."
"We're just such a deep team. We were just putting in so many different combinations, we had three or four guards on the court at one time, or we'd use a big lineup with two guards and other key post players. Definitely one of the keys to our success is the fact that we've been able to get at people and be aggressive the entire game and use a full-court the entire time."
Three-point shooting...
"We were getting the ones that we wanted, but we didn't want to just become a jump shot shooting team so we'd try to get to the basket at the same time. There were so many great penetration and kick-outs in the first and second half so those are the ones that you want to take and make. I think we did a great job of that tonight. We shot the ball pretty well from deep."
Head Coach Tom Crean
"I'm proud of the way my team competed after a lot of time off. You come from playing three games in three days to coming in and having to get ourselves ready to play a team that we think is a good basketball team. The most important thing for us tonight was to play the way we needed to play to feel like we're getting better. I think the highlight of the night for me to look at the stats sheet is the fact that we had 26 assists and seven turnovers. There were many times where guys could have taken a shot and it wouldn't have been a bad one, but they gave it to their team in order to get a better one. That's a great sign of a team that is maturing."
"We played some different lineups in the first half and played a lot of different combinations throughout the game. The bottom line was that we wanted to feel like we were getting better once this game was over than we were a week ago. For the most part we made a lot of improvement and now we have another week to get ready before we go and play on the road (at Wisconsin) at an incredibly challenging place in Madison. I'm proud of the way they competed tonight and there are a lot of things we can take from this team and build on."
