Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Marquette men's tennis team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 6-1, tonight at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium closing out their regular season play. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 12-7.

With a new lineup in doubles, Marquette came out strong earning wins at all three positions. Pete Van Lieshout and Brett Binkley took down Jan Stastny and JD Greenlee at no. 1, 8-1. In his final home meet, senior Tomek Czernuszewicz teamed up with Stephen Shao at no. 2 to defeat the tandem of Jonathan Hack and Tom Rastall, 8-1. The final doubles victory came from the Golden Eagle's freshmen duo of Niko Boulieris and Mark Rutherford who beat Alan Dowell and Levi Musser, 8-3.

In singles play Czernuszewicz saw action at no. 6 for the second time this season and took down Rastall, 6-3, 6-1.

"Tomek not playing in the lineup everyday has nothing to do with his importance to this program," head coach Steve Rodecap said of his lone senior. "This is the first player I've ever had for their entire four years. He has changed the attitude of this program. He brings 110 percent to practice everyday and we are really going to miss him."

Rutherford was the only Marquette player unable walk away with a singles victory, falling to JD Greenlee in a tight third set tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 12-10.

The Golden Eagles will closeout their season at the BIG EAST Championships next week beginning on Friday in Tampa, Fla.

"Today was good for us to get another match in before the tournament," said Rodecap. "We will try to get outdoors on Monday. We are well rested and in good shape going into the tournament and I know our guys are eager to play."
