And so the party came to an end. Yes, it was truly a party as every Friday night women across Milwaukee came to celebrate the fight against breast cancer in their own special way. After five weeks 35 women and the soccer coaches came together, for the final Soccer Mom Camp day. Embraced in a big circle they all shared some intimate stories about their experiences that have generated pain, sorrow and hardship. For the MU community it was special that Marnie (Men's Soccer Athletic Trainer) came to the event after finding out she had Breast Cancer just a couple of weeks ago. With all the women around and the Men's Soccer staff she was strong enough to share her fight against Breast Cancer.
What this was all about and what it truly represented is that you are not alone. People care about your problems and you should feel comfortable to share them to raise awareness as well as it might be a way to release the pain. One strong group to Kicking Breast Cancer!
After a brief warm up, each Soccer Mom was introduced as the women ran on to Marquette's game field. The venue was very special as there was an official announcement, national anthem singer and a strong opposing team. Stan Anderson took charge as he was elected to be the head coach for the SMC team against a surprise team put together by fathers, husbands and men that came to support the cause. For a $100 donation the Father's filled a starting line up with Jesse Rosen taking the lead. Exchanging leads for an hour, we finally had a winner with a 4-2 score. THE SOCCER MOMS were victorious!
There is nothing more to say than the fact that this was a huge success with over 80 women participating through out the five weeks and raising over $5,000.
The Nation's first ever Soccer Mom Camp was complete at Marquette University with a big announcement:
WE WILL BE BACK in 2008 to KICK BREAST CANCER.
? A special thank you to all the Soccer Moms that came to all or one of the weeks. ? Cathy Shaw and E.C. Miracles for putting together this event. ?
