MILWAUKEE - Junior defender Katie Miller was honored for her hard work and dedication on the field as well as in the classroom as she was named to the CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 First Team.
"This is a tremendous honor for Katie, and well deserved," said head coach Markus Roeders. "She has excelled in the classroom and on the field, and her being named (academic all-district) validates her desire to strive to be the best. Katie is in a small group of athletes that competes for a national ranked program and can maintain a 4.0 GPA at the same time. It is unfortunate that her season came to sudden end, but we are looking for a speedy recovery. Her determination and commitment level is outstanding and we look to have her back on the field soon."
Miller, a marketing major who boasts a 4.0 overall grade-point average, was a key member of Marquette's defense for 14 games this season before being sidelined due to injury. She helped MU to register six shutouts while seeing 1,195 minutes of action. She earned BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition on Sept. 29 for her play in a 1-1 draw at Providence and a 1-0 win over Connecticut.
In other soccer news, following the the Golden Eagles 1-0 win over then No. 22 Rutgers, MU jumped in to Soccer America's Top-25 poll at No. 25 announced Monday.
Marquette will head to Notre Dame, Ind. to face the top-ranked Fighting Irish in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals at Alumni Field at 4 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports Network.
