Senior guard Jerel McNeal of the Marquette University men's basketball team has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
McNeal led the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week, including a 61-58 win against No. -/22 Wisconsin. He scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half against the Badgers, including a 3-pointer that put Marquette ahead for good. He averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games, shooting 53.6 percent from the field (15-of-28) and 57.1 percent from 3-point range (4-of-7).
The accolade is the second of McNeal's career. He was also tabbed the player of the week as a sophomore after he helped MU to wins over Texas Tech and Duke en route to the CBE Classic championship.
