"It was great for us to step up and win today," said head coach Jody Bronson. "This team (UTA) was definitely a seasoned outdoor team and I thought we did a good job of adjusting to playing outdoors and the conditions. We played really well and managed to stay strong and pull it out. Hopefully this will be the start of another win streak."
Marquette won the doubles point and never looked back claiming four straight singles points en route to the win.
The No. 1 senior duo of Maria Calbeto and Shannon Brown made quick work of their UTA counterparts Monika Hadvigerova and Klara Jagosova defeating them 8-2. Senior Erin Watkins and freshman Rachael Hush followed with an 8-6 win over Daiana Negreanu and Sara Pesic at No. 2.
Freshman Elly Strother secured the match win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sara Pesic at No. 4, while Calbeto claimed MU's fifth and final point of the day at No. 2 when she pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Hadvigerova.
The Golden Eagles will close out their spring break road trip indoors at North Texas on Sunday, March 23.
