MILWAUKEE -- Khaled El-Ahmad announced he has officially stepped down from his position as assistant men's soccer coach at Marquette University to pursue other interests. El-Ahmad, who had planned to resign before July 1, recently completed his second full season with the Golden Eagles as part of a staff assembled by head coach Louis Bennett and associate head coach Stan Anderson.
"I want to thank Marquette and the athletic department for giving me the resources and unconditional support to help grow the men's soccer program," said El-Ahmad. "I also want to thank all the fans and campers for their interest and support in what we are trying to achieve. Lastly I want to thank the team for working hard and doing their utter best to be the best. For Louis and Stan, I want to thank them for their mentorship, knowledge and pursuit of excellence."
El-Ahmad, who was born in Lebanon and primarily raised in Sweeden, will now focus on other opportunities both in the United Stats and in Europe. He was instrumental in the development of the Marquette University Soccer School, in addition to numerous community outreach activities involving the MU student-athletes. In many ways El-Ahmad connected the Golden Eagles with Excellency Clinic, LLC, a soccer-based organization that helps raise money for charitable organizations.
"I think Khaled has done a great job helping put MU soccer in the community," said Bennett. "It's going to put us on the map in terms of what we offer to the community, and he'll be missed. He'll be exploring different avenues in and out of soccer, and wherever he goes he'll do a great job."
