MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette men's soccer team will look to upset unbeaten St. John's, ranked No. 5 in the nation according to the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, when the two teams kick off at Valley Fields at 12:05 p.m. Sunday.
Series History
St. John's garnered a 1-0 victory in the teams' only previous meeting which took place in the 2005 season, Marquette's first year as a member of the BIG EAST Conference. The loss at 10th-ranked St. John's snapped a four-game unbeaten streak by the Golden Eagles after they dropped their opening match of the season, 1-0, at Ohio State.
Last Time Out
Marquette dropped a 1-0 decision to Syracuse in its return to Valley Fields following a 4-1 loss at Notre Dame on Sept. 11 to open the BIG EAST portion of the Golden Eagles' schedule. Syracuse, which remains unbeaten to begin the 2008 season, scored in the 76th minute off a goal from Spencer Schomaker. Marquette out-shot the Orange, 9-7, and the Golden Eagles' three shots on goal was one more than their opponent. The match also marked the return of MU defender Scott Miller, who was sidelined for the team's first four contests due to injury, although Miller played limited minutes.
