MILWAUKEE -- Marquette junior goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski was recognized for his performances at Louisville and at Cincinnati over this past weekend. Pyzdrowski was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, in addition to being tabbed the BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week. He managed a 0.45 goals against average, while recording 14 saves and his third shutout of the season.
Marquette went 1-0-1 during the road trip. Pyzdrowski faced a total of 50 shots, including a Marquette opponent record 32 shots Friday at Louisville. After the Golden Eagles had two players sent off with red cards, Pyzdrowski and his teammates played with nine men on the field for the duration of both overtime periods in earning the 1-1 draw.
On Sunday, Pyzdrowski recorded a career-high eight saves, and faced another 18 shots, in a 1-0 victory at Cincinnati. Pyzdrowski, who made a number of remarkable saves over the weekend, also made a diving stop on a Bearcat penalty kick -- the potential equalizer - that was awarded with just five minutes remaining in regulation. The stop help seal the Golden Eagles' first BIG EAST win of the season.
Pyzdrowski's BIG EAST honor is the first for Marquette keeper. He was selected to the league's Weekly Honor Roll following back-to-back shutouts against Penn and Columbia thus earning him a spot on the Marquette Invitational All-Tournament Team earlier this month.
