MILWAUKEE -- Marquette goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the league announced Monday. Pyzdrowski was credited with a pair of shutouts and boasts a 0.29 goals against average after the Golden Eagles' first three games of the season.
"The fruits of his labor are paying off and being recognized," said associate head coach Stan Anderson. "I think he is definitely worthy of the honor. His performances thus far have been solid to stellar. With his reduced goals against, we think he's shown the class that he's in."
Pyzdrowski was the top goalkeeper of the Marquette Invitational, as evidenced by his all-tournament selection announced Sunday. He and the Marquette defensive unit held Ivy League opponents Penn and Columbia scoreless for a combined 220:00 minutes, as the Golden Eagles played both teams to a 0-0 draw following double overtimes.
It's the first time in 29 collegiate matches that Pyzdrowski has recorded back-to-back shutouts and the first consecutive clean sheets by an MU keeper since Steven Grow accomplished the feat in 2005. Marquette handily defeated Bryant University, 4-1, in the season opener.
