MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette track and field squad finished competition at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational Saturday afternoon with many athletes recording BIG EAST qualifying marks and personal bests.
"Some good stuff happened today," said head coach Bert Rogers. "We definitely competed well this time out as we had a lot of runners set new BIG EAST-qualifying marks."
For the women, Jessica Ehlen took home top honors in the weight throw, recording a personal best and BIG EAST-qualifying distance of 60 feet, six inches. That mark is just six inches shy of a school record. Alyssa Davis also reached a BIG EAST mark and set a personal record in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet. Davis' jump places her fourth in school history in the event.
"It was exciting to see Alyssa get her mark up there," Rogers said. "Some great things happened on the runway today with Alyssa and Albojay (Deacon) setting BIG EAST marks and upping their personal bests."
Jayne Grebinski set a personal record with a time of 5:00.43 in the mile, qualifying her for the BIG EAST meet. Olivia Johnson and Anna Weber finished eighth and tenth, respectively, in the event to round out Marquette's finishers in the top 10.
Freshman Billy Schlottke took first in the 800-meters on the men's side with a time of 1:58.10. Albojay Deacon continues to be Marquette's top triple jumper, reaching 44-02.00 to post another BIG EAST mark.
Recording a BIG EAST mark for the first time was T.J. Hodgson with a height of 6-03.25 in the high jump.
In the weight throw, co-captain Jeff Kluge recorded a personal-best distance of 56 feet to finish third, while teammate Jonathan Kusowski finished fourth.
Finishing second in their respective events were Scott Mueller in the mile at 4:16.53 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Michael O'Brien, Tom Cassady, Randey Fisher and Eric Meissner.
The Golden Eagles return to action Friday at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.
